artist's
statement
My work is about cows and it is not about cows. I try
to express “cowness," as seen in their gaunt,
full form, felt in their awkward, graceful motion, and
realized in their shy, inquisitive, stubborn, playful
nature. Cows are lovely, lyrical, funny, earthy and peaceful.
Herds make ever-changing patterns of movement as they
dot the hillsides. The cow is a sacred symbol, both ancient
and modern, of abundance, fertility, motherhood.
That which is not about cows is about how we see.
I play with time, perspective and changing point of view,
and sometimes peek behind the veil. Now and then there
is a message, and I get to reveal it.
